Story Behind The Song
I wrote this for The Jefferson Street Bluesmen-- a group of ancient black blues veterans who were fronted by my wife's late uncle, Phil Earhart-- the only caucasian among them. He died of cancer. They still perform the song.

Lyrics
DADDY BLUE
Words and music by Roger Ferguson
I used to love to party-- I loved to dance out on the floor
I?d get dressed up with my baby-- and shake it loose ?til three or four
Oh we danced a perfect tango, and folks would kill for what we wore
Yeah, I had it going on-- You know they called me Daddy Cool
I had lots of friends and money-- was well-respected as a rule
?Til she ran off with some country boy-- and left me looking like a fool
My baby left me hangin?
She went out without explainin?
She used to be so sweet and fine
But, now I can?t understand
Why would she leave me
I swear I?ve never been untrue
They used to call me Daddy Cool
But now I?m Daddy Blue
Yes I used to be upstanding-- someone a man would want to be
Never pushy or demanding-- a gentleman of high degree
But then that underhanded woman, she made a big fool out of me
When she walked out that door-- you know it hurt me through and through
Took my money, took my car-- left the payments overdue
They used to call me Daddy Cool, but now I?m Daddy Blue
My baby left me hangin?
Took off without explainin?
She used to be so sweet and fine
But, now I can?t understand
Why would she leave me
I?ve never been untrue
They used to call me Daddy Cool
But now I?m Daddy Blue
Yeah, they called me Daddy Cool-- but now those days are through
Yeah, they called me Daddy Cool-- but now those days are through
Nobody hardly ever calls me, but when they do, it?s Daddy Blue
My baby left me hangin?
Took off without explainin?
She used to be so sweet and fine
But, now I can?t understand
Why would she leave me
I swear I?ve never been untrue
They used to call me Daddy Cool
But now I?m Daddy Blue
