Icicle (feat. Dan Kiernan)

Story Behind The Song

This song is the lead single off of my album Naughty List featuring the vocals of NYC artist Dan Kiernan. Sounding like a cross between Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" and Adele's "Set Fire to the Rain," this song pulses with energy and features soaring vocals that take you into the heart of a winter storm.

Song Description

The contrast that I aimed for in "Icicle" was lyrically pitting verse against chorus. The first verse tells the story of someone who has grown to become guarded and closed off, and the hook of the chorus is the idea that even if for one night, they might find somebody to break through those walls and "pierce [their] heart like an icicle." The composition of the track is pulsing and percussive. I aimed for the track having the vibes of an intense winter storm. When I brought Dan Kiernan on this track to sing lead, his vocals took the song to another level of power. Though this is the lead single off of my original holiday album, nothing explicitly feels 'holiday' about the track. And that's what I was going for overall with my album - to blend both holiday themes and cold, wintry vibes (like Icicle) and create a cohesive and moving album.

Lyrics

Buried deep like the evergreen,
You'll never catch me fallin'
Cause a scene like the Everdeen,
Makin' my aim sharpen
Runnin' wild, was a stubborn child
You never saw me crawlin'
Furrowed brow, work too hard now
To level my walls to the ground
But all that's gone when the sun goes down

Move me like the willow tree when the cold wind blows
Soothe me like a melody in the winter snow
Like an echo moving through the breeze of a winding grove
Pierce my heart like an icicle

Reveling in a sweeter thing,
Lines on my face formin'
Pristine, you're the Sistine
Letting me paint your walls in
I don't mind, this time,
Feeling your face close in
Bottom line, you sign
Cause I could be gone by the morning light
So all that's wrong, better make it right

Move me like the willow tree when the cold wind blows
Soothe me like a melody in the winter snow
Like an echo moving through the breeze of a winding grove
Pierce my heart like an icicle

Tonight
Make it right tonight (x7)
Make it right

Move me
Soothe me

Move me like the willow tree when the cold wind blows
Soothe me like a melody in the winter snow
Like an echo moving through the breeze of a winding grove
Pierce my heart like an icicle
Move me like the willow tree when the cold wind blows
Soothe me like a melody in the winter snow
Like an echo moving through the breeze of a winding grove
Pierce my heart like an icicle
