Another Breath

Story Behind The Song

This song is a real one. It was written for my wife. I spend too much time at a desk job and not enough time making love with my wife. I wrote this song to release the energy that balls up in my chest when I leave to work every moring for my 11 hour shift. So far it is working.

Song Description

If Coldplay wrote a song with Peter Gabriel and John Rzeznik (Goo Goo Dolls) it would sound like "Another Breath." Much like Rzeznik's "Iris," the song opens with acoustic guitar and voice. The lyrics articulate the double edged sword: I've got a good day job that pays the bills, but being apart through these 11 hour days is just killing me. The full band (drums, elec. guitar, bass, piano, cello) then kicks in for the second verse helping to paint the emotional picture while while at the same time setting up for an expansive, passionate sounding chorus. The song drops back down to the 3rd verse, after the first chorus, to then shoot right back into the second chorus...then the powerful rockin' bridge. After the heigth of the bridge dynamic, the song takes a turn back into the sparse acoustic guitar, strings and voice for only half of a verse. A brief moment is left open, the song then explodes into the fully orchestrated final chorus.

Lyrics

Another Breath

I've got a pretty good job it pays the bills
but the price I pay is starting to kill
all the hours we can spend together
I'm up before dawn, home after dark
this time away is tearing me apart
Wish I could hold you in my arms forever

Your heart next to mine
Not a word, not a thought, no sign of time

I kiss your lips when you're half asleep
you open your eyes and smile at me
I touch your face like it's the very last time
It's just enough to get me through the day
I tell myself It'll all be okay
I look at the clock and start counting hours

Time starts to slow down
My thoughts go round and round

Can we lay here for another chance
To feel this love, we can come again
We can lose ourselves when we're together
Wishing this moment could last forever
Can we lay here for another breath

Another day goes by on the assembly line
I want to be grateful but my wandering mind
Yeah, it keeps on pulling
Taking me back to my heart
screaming through darkness till the day is done
and I'm on my way home

Can we lay here for another chance
To feel this love, we can come again
We can lose ourselves when we're together
Wishing this moment could last forever
Can we lay here for just another breath,
For just another breath

Got a pretty good job it pays the bills
but the price I pay is starting to kill
all the hours we can spend together...

Can we lay here for another just chance
To feel this love, we can come again
We can lose ourselves when we're together
Wishing this moment could last forever
Can we lay here for just another breath
