I was hitching outside Delacroix
By the side of an old shack

As the cool of night finally arrived
I lay on my sleeping bag
And tried to get some shut eye for a while

Next morning when I woke up
I was not alone
An old mutt was laying next to me
He was so thin just a bag of bones
So I shared my pork and beans
And he wolfed them down without a by your leave

I rolled my bag up stuck my thumb out

With the old mutt still standing by my side
That dear old guy must have changed my luck
Coz soon we got a ride
A truck took us all the way to Lake Charles
