Lyrics
TIRED OLD TEXAN
NOW HE WAS FROM WACO AND PUMPED GAS FOR TEXACO
AND WORKED FROM THE DUSK TILL THE DAWN
AND WHEN THIS WAS THROUGH THERE WERE STILL THINGS TO DO
LIKE PUTTIN THE COWS IN THE BARN
NOW WHEN THIS WAS DONE HIS POP WOULD SAY SON,
"COME IN AND SIT BY THE FIRE"
AND THERE THEY WOULD SIT WITH THEIR GUITARS AND PICKS AND SING LIKE
BIRDS ON A WIRE
CHORUS:
NOW THIS IS A STORY OF A BOY BOUND FOR GLORY
A BOY THAT YOU ALREADY KNOW
HIS HAD HIS DREAMS OF A POT OF GOLD
YOU'VE SEEN HIM IN BARS AND BACKS SEATS OF CARS
WITH WOMEN HE DON'T EVEN KNOW
HE'S A TIRED OLD TEXAN WHO SINGS COUNTRY WESTERN
BUT DON'T HAVE A SONG OF HIS OWN
NOW HE COULD SING YOUR HANK WILLIAMS AND HUM MARTY ROBBINS
LIKE AN ANGEL BOY IN A CHOIR
AND WHEN THINGS GOT TOUGH HE WAS KNOWN TO GET ROUGH-
ENOUGH TO SET ANY JUKE JOINT ON FIRE
NOW THE BOY WAS SONG GOOD
THAT MOM N' POP UNDERSTOOD THAT THEY WERE SITTIN' ON A POT OF GOLD
SO MOM GAVE HIM HER BLESSING AND POP GAVE HIME HIS SIX STRING
AND HE TOOK THAT FORD FAIRLANE ON THE ROAD
CHORUS...
NOW HE PLAYED IN RENO AND EVERY CASINO
AND GOT TO BE PRETTY WELL KNOWN
AS THIS YOUNG KID FROM TEXAS WHO COULD SING COUNTRY WESTERN
BUT DIDN'T HAVE NO SONGS OF HIS OWN
NOW HE GOT TIREDOF RUNNIN' AROUND
AND JUST SINGIN' THE SAME SONGS EVERY NIGHT
SO ONE NIGHT IN SOME BAR HE SOLD HIS GUITAR
AND LEFT FOR HOME ON THE VERY NEXT FLIGHT
NOW WHEN HE GOT HOME IT SHOOK HIM ALL UP-
SO MUCH SO THAT HE CRIED
CAUSE WHEN HE WAS GONE HIS PA HAD PASSED ON
FROM A CANCER HE HID DEEP INSIDE
NOW THE BOY WALKED THROUGH THE FIELD
THINGS DIDN'T SEEM REAL TILL HE STARTED HUMMIN' THIS SONG
AND JUST THEN RAIN FELL AND OF OF HIS HELL
WELL IT UP AND LEFT HIM ALONE
SO THIS IS THAT STORY OF A BOY BOUND FOR GLORY
A BOY THAT YOU ALREADY KNOW
HE'S HAD HIS DREAMS OF A POT OF GOLD
AND NOW HE'S A STAR BUT HE'S HAD TO ROAM FAR-
FROM NEW YORK TO NEW MEXICO
HE'S A TIRED OLD TEXAN WHO SINGS COUNTRY WESTERN
WHO SINGS COUNTRY WESTERN BUT NOW HAS A SONG OF HIS OWN (REPEAT)
