Rhonda Lee

Story Behind The Song

When I would attend family hoedowns in my youth in Memphis, Tennessee, one of the family's favorites was a song called "Corrina, Corrina". My song "RhondaLee" was written in homeage to "Corrina, Corrina" and the wonderfuul hoedowns we had.

Rhonda Lee

lyrics by Rainey Lewis
music by Rainey Lewis and Rocket Ritchotte

Rhonda Lee, oh Rhonda Lee
Won't you come home to me
If you do, I promise I'll be
A better man, a better man
For Rhonda Lee

She was more lovely than a summer song
And much more lonely than she was strong
So when that dark-eyed stranger came along
He took her hand
And she took him home

Life is hard on a woman all alone
And harder still on a pretty one that's young
Sometimes she finds to survive she must belong
To a man
And God help her if she's wrong

Rhonda Lee, oh Rhonda Lee
Won't you come home to me
If you do, I promise I'll be
A better man, a better man
For Rhonda Lee

The devil's bargain
When fragile flesh blooms just to bruise
The angels pardon
The lover's lie and reckless ruse
But there's no starting
A game you can't afford to lose
You'll have to choose
Rhonda Lee, you'll have to choose

(Guitar solo)

A soul can shatter when it's been betrayed
And hands once gentle soon can wring with rage
But she would not lie in the bed she made
She told her man
That she couldn't stay

Her laughter wild and white just like the dove
Flew up until his hands, once filled with love
Began to close until they'd had enough
To send that dove
Up to the skies above

Rhonda Lee, oh Rhonda Lee
Won't you come home to me
If you don't, there'll be hell before I see
Another man, another man
For Rhonda Lee

Rhonda Lee
Oh Rhonda Lee
