Story Behind The Song
As a Black female rock performer in the 90s to early aughts, I almost felt a need to apologize for the decisions I have made in my life regarding my Goth tastes and rock and roll interests. I soon realized I didn't have to apologize for being me.
Song Description
I really love this song and every time I sing it my spirit soars--for me, it is spiritual and uplifting. It essentially talks about embracing who you are and not letting other people define you, which we all have a tendency to do. We shouldn't have to apologize for who and what we are, for what we like and what we desire, so long as what we do doesn't harm others ( at least, not intentionally, because, let's face it, with all good intentions, sometimes we hurt people, even those we care about), That notwithstanding, we are on good ground when we are true to ourselves.

Lyrics
VERSE ONE
Walk a little distance in my shoes
Across the sea, across the sand
Walk a little dtstance in my shoes
Maybe then you'll understand
Now try walking on the water
It's not an easy thing to do
But you expect me to resist my inner vision
Act and think like you do
CHORUS:
I see a new horizon
Where my soul can glide
and I'm not coming down
This is a new beggining
I am finally winning
I am gaining ground
I will live my own life
Let my future fly high
Fly it high
VERSE TWO
Well, I know what they say about me
And I don't really give a damn
They say I'm getting
Too big for my britches
cause I'm proud of who I am
I would never disrespect you
Even if we don't agree
You have the right to believe in what you feel
Give me the same courtesy
Well
(REPEAT CHORUS)
BRIDGE
Fly-----------
High----------------
(4X's)
(REPEAT CHORUS)
(Repeat FLY HIGH'S to fade)
