I was holding my 4th child, she was about 6 months old and she was crying about something and I was standing in the hallway and I was tired of having babies and I didn't want to hold her anymore and so I put her down and as I put her down, the thought came to me to hold 'em while you can. My little girl looked at me and I thought, hey that would make a good song. So I got my tape recorder and put my daughter on the counter and got my guitar and began to sing "Hold em while you can, give 'em hugs and kisses and sing em lullabys
