Story Behind The Song
I met the girl who walked to Ipanema Beach in Rio and inspired Antonio Carlos Jobim & Vinicius de Moraes to write their famous song. Her name is HElo (Heloisa) Pinheiro and when I was working with singer/pianist Freddy Cole(brother of Nat"King"Cole) in the early 80's, I met Helo at a reception given for Freddy in Rio de Janeiro! After writing the song with pianist Keith Williams some years later, I sent it to her and she liked it so much, she included it in her book "The Eternal Girl From Ipanema" mentioning Keith & me as writers! She is a beautiful person in and out and we have remained in contact!

Lyrics
HELO FROM IPANEMA
Music by: Phil Morrison
Keith Williams
Words by: Phil Morrison
This song I sing for Helo
And to see her would be as in a dream
She`d walk the beach at Ipanema
Down in Rio - where life is love supreme
Bridge 1
A cool breeze comes in from the ocean
So gently it blows through her hair
Her body is graceful in motion
Free as a bird that flies
Up in the sky without care
Vinicius wrote words for Helo ...and
Jobim gave those words a melody
Bridge 2
The sun shines on Corcovado
It stands high ...majestically
Below ...was Helo Pinheiro
That tall tan girl, who walked to the sea
Now when you go to Ipanema...
You`ll remember... that song`s famous girl
The sound of bossa nova
This song heard `round the world
This song`s famous girl
