Lyrics
There she was again getting into a taxi,
I just met her at the baggage claim
That's where she smiled at me and said hello to me
We spoke briefly and went our sepatate ways
I felt an attraction, yeah there was some connection, an opportunity I didn't grab
But I could get another try, cause she's waving me goodby
from the back of a yellow cab
Well I flagged down the next taxi, he pulled up to me, playing music from some far away land
Though English wasn't his lsanguage, he undersyood my anguish,
I cried "Follow as fast as you can!"
I said "See that yellow taxi, that woman in the backseat is the love that I could have had
And I don't care about the fare, I'll tip you triple my tab,
If you can catch that yellow cab!"
Well I coulda took a bus, I coulda took a train,
but I never woulda met her, though I didn't get her name
But what does it matter, if I never see her again
We followed over a bridge and into a tunnel,
weaving in and out of traffic too fast
Closing in tight, tried to pull up beside,
thought I could get her attention at last
But they were in a faster lane, was my persuit in vain,
was that the last chance that I'll ever have?
Then we're stuck behind a dump truck, I guess it's just dumb luck,
Will we ever catch that yellow cab?
Well I coulda took a bus, I coulda took a train,
but I never woulda met her, though I didn't get her name
But what does it matter, if I never see her again
Now they're way up ahead, and though the light's turning red,
the cabbie puts his lead foot to the floor
They turned right on a side street, left on a wide street,
among a hundred yellow taxis or more
Giving up I said "Oh well, take me to my Hotel"
The chance of finding her again was looking bad
But as I was checking in, there she was again
Getting out of a Yellow Cab
