Story Behind The Song

I met a friend that I hadn't seen in almost 20 years (time has a notorious way of doing that to us sometimes) and we reconnected with the mutual unraveling of experiences that comes with such an absence. His musings included revelation that his last couple relationships had been a severe emotional drain and that he couldn't keep entering into relationships trying to be "somebody's Superman". At that time I remember thinking how poignant that statement was. It stuck with me through the ups and downs of the following year. We hear all the time about how important it is to be giving and unselfish in a relationship, but we can't neglect ourselves in the process. A healthy relationship starts with a healthy self emotionally. That is at the core of what "Strength" is really about.
