Story Behind The Song
While experimenting with various banjo picking styles, I came across a particular run that more or less resembled the whirring flight of a hummingbird, so I proceeded to write the song.

Lyrics
Hummin' Bird (c) Joe Kretschmer, 2002
Hummin' bird, I can barely see.
Your little wings, look like a blur to me.
How can you move your wings so rapidly?
Hummin' bird, won't you stay a while?
Seeing you always makes me smile.
Makes me remember when I was just a little child.
Hummin' bird, so small but strong
I know you don't even hear this song
Lookin' for flowers, with your bill so thin and long
There are times, when I'm feeling blue.
Then all of a sudden, you come into view.
I can't help but smiling through and through.
To see something so small and beautiful as you.
Hummin' bird, look like a great big bee.
I see you now, looking straight at me.
I often wonder, just what it is you see.
