A Modest Goal ©2002 by Joe Kretschmer
[Intro., slow and earnest]
Feeding the hungry, praying for world peace
Finding cures for pestilence and deadly disease
These are very worthy goals that you can try to do
But I have something much more modest in mind for you?
Why don't you?
[chorus]
?use that goddam turn signal when you're driving in your car?
It's standard equipment now and it isn't very hard.
Pick your brains up off the shelf, and think of someone besides yourself,
And use that goddamn turn signal when you're driving in your car!
Long ago in years gone by when there such a thing as courtesy,
You had to roll down the window and stick your arm out so everyone could see
Whether you were turning left or right, so they could plan accordingly
And shift their speed to the current need and maneuver easily.
Then one day an idea was born in the mind of some engineer.
You could signal turns both left and right by flashing lights in the rear.
Now you wouldn't have to stick your arm out in the sleet or snow or rain,
But you'd still have to think to make the lights blink and for that you need a brain!
[so they still don't?chorus]
Well, I have an idea of my own that I think is pretty neat.
It's a wire that leads to a metal plate in the middle of the driver's seat.
So when you make that sudden turn without slowing down or signalling,
You'll get a 12-volt dart to your private parts and you can bet it's gonna sting!
[So you'd better?chorus]
