Lyrics
I remember as a little girl, down at the local hall.
Singing with my sister, while dad played his guitar
I remember that night so well, on stage we felt like stars
Neighbors clapped and cheered us on while Dad played his guitar
We always had a song or two playing in our home
Dad would sing with his guitar, we always sang along.
Dusty old farmer in the key of G
Sissy sang the low notes, the high notes were me.
I would pick up dad?s old guitar and make nothing but noise
But underneath my racket, I heard my daddy?s voice.
You have music inside you, just you wait and see.
Keep up the practice girl and you?ll be playing just like me.
When I hit Jr. High, I had a music class
Where I took dads guitar, I?s amazed I learnt so fast.
One night when dad came home I showed him how I played
He went out and bought a guitar, for me the very next day.
Now that I?m all grown up, almost 20 years have gone
I play that same guitar, as I sing this song.
I think about the special gift, that dad gave to me,
And how I will be passed on down the family tree.
My kids will pick up my guitar, and make nothing noise.
And underneath their racket, I hope they hear my voice
You have music inside you, just you wait and see
Keep up the practice dear, and you?ll be playing just like me.
Keep up the practice dear, and you?ll be playing like grandpa and me.
