Story Behind The Song
It is an autobiographical song about feeling looked down upon, and retaliating with judgment and cynicism. There is a sub-plot about the awareness of that weight on a relationship.
Song Description
A rocker about lashing out from insecurity. It has mellow, passive aggressive verses that groove with irony. The angry chorus is an internal monologue. There is a very Beatles-esque bridge addressing the woman being spoken to, communicating the hopelessness of my personality dysfunction. It is not angry in the way that you would hear teenagers being angry, but a more adult way of handling anger.

Lyrics
I have been taken by a social disease
And I don't want to cure myself
I've been hating every person I meet and I'm beyond all help
I'm drinking courage on the rocks with a twist
It's somewhere I retreat
I've been imposing my elitist opinions on all the people I meet
Something is making me bring a gavel down on every one in the room
Exposing every single weakness I can exhume
'Cause I can't stand to play
All of your sociable little games
So I bring a gavel down on you
There is a corner in the back of my mind
And it seldom gets used
It is the party where the arty people come and don't sustain my abuse
Something is making me bring a gavel down on everyone in the room
Letting my acid tongue destroy all it will consume
'Cause I can't stand to hear
All the cries of the insincere
So I bring a gavel down
I know it's a drag, but that's the price you pay
When you throw your life away
To the arms of cynical people like me
Something is making me bring a gavel down on everyone in the room
Casting a judging eye and nobody is immune
I bring a heavy hand to every light remark
Taking everyone to my lonely place in the dark
'Cause I can't stand to see
People patronizing me
So I bring a gavel down
I bring a gavel down on you
