Bio
I started out on a keyboard-- the Magnus 32-key reed organ, a gift from Santa in 1967. (I have a recording of the very first composition/improvisation I ever played.) Very spotty education after that-- my parents tried the organ lesson route, but I didn't practice much because I preferred to play by ear. Along came high school and the chorus accompanist job (I learned to play piano on my own-- a great idea if you want to permanently ingrain bad technique!) , then various church jobs until college. Off to study medicine! Freedom! Mistake. There I found real players and composers who had no trouble luring me out of science and into music. Then years of silence-- what can I possibly write that is "new music"? There's nothing new anymore. 14 years later, bag that notion! Here I am, composing as I should be, anything I want to, simple or not, pop or classical, academic or entertainment, looking for filmmakers and working on my first orchestral piece. Have you seen "American Beauty"? It resonates deeply with me!
