The Sluggard Song

Story Behind The Song

I love the book of proverbs and decided to write a song that combined all my favorite scriptures about sluggards. I love to work. Hopefully this song will motivate lazy people to get working!

Song Description

This song takes nearly all the "sluggard" scriptures from the book of Proverbs and combines them into one song. Motivational get-off-your-duff and get workin' song.

Lyrics

Go to the ant, O sluggard
Observe her ways and be wise
Go to the ant, O sluggard
Come on and open your eyes
Who, having no chief, officer or ruler
Prepares her meat,
And gathers her provision in the harvest

Chorus: How long will you lie down?
When will you arise?
A little sleep, a little slumber,
A little folding of the hands to rest
And your poverty will come marchin' in on you
And your need like a robbin' man

I passed by the field of the sluggard,
And by the yard of the man lacking sense.
It was overgrown with thistles
A stickly and a prickly mess.
The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing
'Cause he won't plow!
That is why he's begging through the harvest.

I heard the word of the sluggard
He says, "I'm not goin' out there".
Listen to the gripe of the sluggard:
"There's a lion in the open square!"
Wise in his eyes, but you won't catch him workin'
Just runs his mouth (Blah, Blah, Blah)
That's his desire and that's what's gonna kill him

Catchy lyrics, telling a story.

very fun and carnival-like feel, bounciness keeps your attention, overall nice balance to the mix

If this song is intended for Children's Church or a musical, then this is a great song. I think the genre of Children's Music would fit it best. The lyrics tell a great story with an important moral to be taught. The vocal is cool and interesting. Interesting instrument choices as well. The carnival organ sound gives me a feeling that this is part of a scene in a play.

One of the hardest working women in show business you can tell this lady loves her craft as you can feel her smile when she sings! Interesting tone on the keys! Another great effort!

cool gallop to it. nice vocal timbre. good movement i can hear the gospel influence. i like the chord choices. cool lyrics. i reeeaaallly like the incorporation of the samples to mimic the lyrics...the lion roar is cool. well done in general good writing. cheers

Vocals were on point - musicality was fluid/strong - Artistic reminds me of? None i'm aware of.

A fun song, unique country I would call it. Traditional with a modern twist. What I could make out from what I could hear of the lyrics, which unfortunately were not quite clear, was clever, with many repetitions. Coming back to the same words again and again suited this kind of song perfectly, It gave it a kind of sing-along, comforting familiarity.
