Litter Stinks

Story Behind The Song

I am a old hippie chick tree hugger and have picked up so much litter than I could never chronicle the weight. I wrote this song to motivate people to put their trash in the trash can and keep the God's beautiful creation clean. And while you're at it, let Jesus clean up your heart. Combining environmentalism and evangelism in the same song...why not???

Song Description

Starting out on I-75 and ending up at the beach, this song decries the litter mess that thoughtless people leave behind. The song concludes with a spiritual, evangelistic message. Perhaps the reason people don't care about the environment is that their hearts need cleaning up. Jesus is the answer and He can clean up our hearts.

Lyrics

I'm driving south down Seventy-Five
It's a beautiful day and a wonderful drive.
Nothin' in the world could spoil my view
Till I saw what the man in front of me threw:
A Big Mac Wrapper and a couple of fries
A Jumbo Drink with a straw and some ice
A plastic lid and a crumpled-up bag
Just flew out the window and it made me gag.

Chorus: Why, why why? Why'd you let it fly?
Why cantcha be a nice man? And wait till you find a trash can?
Just look at the side of the road. It's not even fit for a toad.
Why don't people stop? Why don't they think?
Don't their mamas teach 'em? Litter stinks!

I headed east on a trip to the shore.
I hoped and prayed that I wouldn't see more.
But someone dropped a Pamper in the parking lot.
And the farther I walked, well the worse it got.
I searched for shells on the sparkly sand
I found a styro cup and aluminum can
an empty bottle, a grungy old shoe
And I wondered why folks gotta do like they do.

Why? Why? Why? Why'd you let it fly?
Why cantcha be a nice man? And wait till you find a trash can?
Just look how the beach appears. Is it just a place to drink beer?
Why don't people stop? Why don't they think?
Don't their daddies teach 'em? Litter stinks! (Instrumental)

If I could have just one little dream
I'd make this ole world all sparkly clean.
But pickin' up the roadside's only a part
Ya gotta dig down deep and clean up your heart.
Now what I say isn't anything new.
There's only One who can do it for you.
He died on the cross, rose up on day three
And He's been cleanin' up hearts for centuries.

Why? Why? Why? Why doncha give Him a try?
Just be a humble man
Let Jesus wash you spick and span!
And when you've gone through the final rinse,
You'll have a heart that's fit for a Prince.
Cycle on Spin - drain out the sin
Hung out to dry - ya shine so bright
Jesus.....blinks!
