Story Behind The Song

Lyrics
G.R.I.T.S.
Verse:
Sitting in a diner in Tennessee
Staring at a menu, wondering what to eat
A waitress walks up and says "What'll it be"
"Today our special is a BLT"
Verse:
I looked up slowly and I was quite impressed
At the shiny gold letters across her chest
I said excuse me ma'am I wasjust trying to guess
What do those stand for G.R.I.T.S.
Chorus:
G.R.I.T.S. is Girls Raised In The South
Who take no guff and stand their ground
But a Southern lady won't cuss out loud
If you make me mad enough and it slips
You're gonna hear "Kiss My Grits"
Verse:
And that started along time ago
Alice was a name of a diner show
They had a sassy red head that they called Flo
When she'd get mad everyone would know
Verse:
She'd say Kiss My Grits and smack her gum
Then walk away and shake her bum
She was a Redneck heroine to everyone
I'm proud of these letters, does that explain it, hun
Chorus:
Bridge:
G.R.I.T.S. Girls Raised In The South
G.R.I.T.S. Sure have purdy moufs
G.R.I.T.S. They really knock me out
And ma'am I think I've decided what I would like to eat
I'll have two eggs over easy, sausage, sourdough toast
and a great big helping of grits
