Story Behind The Song
Rye Whiskey Why evolved out of a riff (the lead into the instrumental break) that I was playing on the guitar. The words Rye Whisky Why just fell into the riff effortlessly. This is one song that I distinctly remember the progression of. After the title, I had to answer the question why?????????? and ?can?t I be saved?? seemed quite appropriate. I sat on that line for some time playing with various words that rhyme with saved??.eventually settling on grave. At this point the concept and feel of the song was carved in stone. Over time the rest of the verses worked themselves out and ultimately became the title track of my debut CD.
Song Description
If aged whiskies are the best, the more times you listen to this one, the better it gets. Rye Whiskey Why is a true honky tonk song about the pitfalls that often times accompany booze. Sensational instrumentation bring to life the story of a man who knows he?s gone too far ? past the point of no return ? and is hopelessly asking for a second chance he knows will never come.

Rye Whiskey Why
Lyin? here alone, tryin?to find my way
Too much left undone, there?s so much left to say
Rye whiskey why, can?t I be saved
Travelin? down this road, to an early grave
You were there for me, when there was no one
There to comfort me, with the setting sun
Rye whiskey why, have you no shame
As you lead me on, to an early grave
The hands of time, wait not for me
Too late to change, my destiny
Rye whiskey why, not ease my pain
Don?t send me on, to an early grave
Sorrow takes hold, I shed no tears
I?ve bid farewell, to future years
The devil?s hand, led me astray
I?m not the only, one to blame
Carve these few words, upon a stone
To lay by me, forever more
Rye whiskey why, did you tempt me
There?s no tomorrow, for to see
There?s no tomorrow, for to see
