Story Behind The Song
The people you meet on an AMTRAK,
come into your life, and you either walk out on them
or they leave on you... I left on Bernie Shaw....
He was born on a dairy farm, was one of nine children...
On his way to Libby, Montana to visit his six children.
A WWII Vet who took Okinawa and shot down a Kamikaze,
got battle fatigue and saw his best friend die;
his friend had a girl back home--Bernie had no one at the time,
He wished it was him....
He misses his wife, his second...
His first wife of 29 years was killed
in a head on collision with a drunk driver on the way
home from a wedding...
The second wife of 20 years died of a stroke.
He took care of her in the final years,
making Sun-catchers in his spare time...
Now just wanted to forget the war
(though sometimes he still cries
and just can't help it...)
and spend time with the
grandkids and make
Sun-catchers.......
