Song Description

Louie attempts to talk Felicia into letting him play the drums in her band of cool cats...and one squirrel; a rodent at that! He wears her down at the end. His silky smooth grooves and swinging pocket makes Louie the coolest rat there is! His tattered old drums are replaces by a shiny new blue sparked top set.

"Why in the world would I ever do that.
Felonia cat answered right back
Why should I be acquainted with you
friends with a rat, I just cannot do!"
"No, said the rat as polite as he could,

a rat who's got talent? It's simply not true."

and she thought to herself, "What should I do?
There's a squirrel in the band, a rodent at that
apart from her tail she resembles a rat.
She's a little bit nutty, but that's just her style,
with a burgundy fez she wears with a smile.
I still don't believe that a rat can do good
don't take it so personal it's just understood!"

alone and abandoned a stray alley cat
not even a brother or sister she knew
a little cat pauper scrounging for food
If it weren't for the help of piano-cat Joe,
who taught her to sing, allowed her to grow
so maybe a chance is all this rat needs
his plight is sencere and he's willin' to please

The rat sure had heart that she could see
but talent is rare and something elite.
How could this rat process such a gift
when most of his kind just wonder and drift.
The rat looked Felonia straight in the eyes
he tried to appeal to her sensitive side.
But then something happened he could not believe
she looked down and smiled and said, "I agree!"

Completely amazed and with nervous delight
what happened right then was a welcomed surprise
He felt in his belly a very strange thing
the flitter and flutter of butterfly wings.
The rat ran back home to his little blue traps
once shimmered and sparkled now looking so drab
They were dingy and tattered well beaten and old.
A relic of shows once played long ago.
"But that won't stop me from doing my best,"
As he polished and scrubbed his blue sparkle set.
Then he got dressed in his favorite vest
ready to rock and bound to impress.
His suit you must know was a bargain store find
a little bit worn but it fit him just right.
He got to the stage with his trap-kit in toe
By showtime he knew he'd be ready to go!
The Show was sold-out the crowd clapped and cheered
"it's show time," Felonia meowed loud and clear.
The sound was like thunder from an ominous cloud
It punched and it rang through the howling crowd.
The cats in the band were as cool as can be
As Felonia Cat shouted, "lets go 1 2 3!"
The rat played a beat so silky and smooth
he fell right in to the cat's deepest groove.
Felonia looked back with saucer sized eyes
That rat was a swinging felicitous surprise!
The show was exciting explosive and fun
the cats knew the rat was second to none.
Felonia Cat knew right then and there
she was happy she took a big chancy dare.
The cats were all digging a real groovy treat
as long as the rat kept swinging that beat
Felonia cat was on top of her game
the quartet was rockin' and soaring to fame.
They were happy to get on the rat's groovy road
That little ole rat she made part of the show.

If you listen real close shut your eyes real tight
you might hear then playing late in the night
so here's to the little rat who never gave up
though no one believed he would amount to much
Now every night when the last note is played
he makes his way home with a smile on hisz face
the tattered blue sparkle traps Buddy once played
are tucked in their cases packed safely away.
His new new drums are shiny all sparkly and new
but there's a place in his heart for the tattered ole blues.
