Story Behind The Song
A producer called for an Otis Redding style ballad, and we wrote this to fill the need. He didn't end up using the song and we decided it would make a fine country song, so we re-cut it with Michael Mason on vocals.
Song Description
Man has a heart to heart conversation with his own heart about a woman they are smitten with. The woman's heart belongs to the heart of his friend, and therefore they must forget the way she looked tonight!

Lyrics
?My Poor Heart?
©2000 Marvin and Raven Taylor/Five Feathers Music/BMI
Heart??... My poor heart, we must forget her
You and I, together, had better... forget her
You must forget the fire she lit inside you
I must forget the way she looked tonight
You can erase the time and the place
When she first made you feel so alive
I will get past the first time and last
That I looked into those eyes
Oh heart, I beg you, I need you? to hurry
I?m helpless?.. so you be the strong one tonight
Heart??.. My poor heart, we must forget her
You and I, together, had better... forget her
Her heart belongs to the heart of another
And his heart has always called me a friend
I must get free of the visions I see
In my mind the whole day through
But you must escape the longing and ache
When you feel yourself breaking in two
Oh heart, I beg you, I need you?. to hurry
(?cuz)I can?t forget the way she looked tonight.
(but) I must forget the way she looked tonight.
