Stinky's Comin' (Face-off With Hank The Cowdog)

"Hank The Cowdog", by John R Erickson

Verse 1:
Hank and Drover were sittin' by the back door
Watchin' the snow fall down
And they knew the Stinky the Christmas skunk
Would be headin' into town
Hank sniffed the air with a pensive look
And he said to his buddy Drover
This year he'll have to go through me
To knock these barrels over

Chorus 1:
Stinky's comin'
Comin' into town
And whenever he shows up
The barrels get knocked down
Stinky's comin'
And while you're safe inside
Hank and Drover will protect your trash tonight

Verse 2:
Drover said, aw come on Hank
You know that every year
Stinky sprays you in the face
And then Beulah won't come near
But the head of ranch security said
That's a price I'll gladly pay
And Beulah's my true love
I'm sure we'll (sniff) meet again someday
(Chorus)

Now Stinky was on a Christmas mission
Same one every year
Just trying to spruce up the neighborhood
And spread a little Christmas cheer
He had a flare for decoratin'
And spreadin' his lovely scent
But he always seemed to run into scrooges
Everywhere he went

Chorus 2:
Stinky's comin'
To decorate your lawn
And he'll face the fiercest dogs
To get his business done
Stinky's comin'
So children, don't you fear
'Cause Stinky's gonna decorate this year

Verse 3:
Stinky said,
There's Christmas decoratin' to be done
And every year you doggies come
And ya try to spoil my fun
Now all I ask for my reward
Is a piece of pumpkin pie
Are you boys gonna share it
Or do I spray you in the eye

Verse 4:
Well Hank looked over at Drover,
Who was lookin' quite forlorned
And said, Drover, we've misjudged this boy -
He doesn't mean us harm!
We thought he'd come to sabotage
But he's come to decorate!
And if we all work together,
Why, this ranch will look just great

Verse 5:
Well they spent the whole night decorating
And then Stinky had to run
But Hank and Drover stood with pride
Beside the work they'd done
They couldn't wait till morning
To see the look in Loper's eyes
When he came out to greet them
And to see their big surprise

Verse 6:
Well, when Loper came out yelling
They figured what was wrong
Was that Sally May had burnt the toast
Or made the coffee much too strong
But they had the satisfaction
As Hank always liked to say
Of a cowdog's job well done
And having brightened Loper's day

Last Chorus:
Stinky's comin'
To decorate your lawn
And he'll recruit your dogs
To help him get it done
Stinky's comin'
So keep your dogs inside
Or they're gonna help him decorate tonight

While the last chorus plays, the following is heard in the background:
Loper : What the...? Oh! Dadburned dogs! Oh what a mess! Oh Sally May! Come on out here!
Drover: Sally May musta burnt the toast again
Loper: Look at what these numbskulls done! Oh, what a mess! Dadburned dogs! Hank! Drover! Get over here!
Hank: Aw, Drover, look! He's got tears in his eyes! We've done a good thing here. He needed some cheerin' up today...you know how he hates burnt toast!
