Story Behind The Song
The island of Alderney was essentially wiped out culturally when the Nazi's occupied it and built the only concentration camp on british soil on it - at the end of the war the camp was burnt to the ground in an effort to conceal it, and Alderney was dubbed 'The Island of Silence' for the islanders refusal to talk about the horrific acts committed to them and others during the occupation
This song reflects this, and is about how sometimes it's ok to feel that way, and not want to talk about the bad things that have happened to you, and to know that eventually things will get better

Lyrics
Broken family trees burnt to the ground
Broken voices cry, but make no sound
They're hushed by years of pain and solitude
Forgive yourself, nothing you could do
Oh Darling, Island of Silence
It's okay, Island of Silence
Look east, the storm has past, it's daylight now
Look east, the rain won't fall, there's no trouble now
But you're hushed by fingers pointed, words of shame
Forgive yourself, you're not the one to blame
Oh Darling, Island of Silence
It's okay, Island of Silence
Oh my Darling, Island of Silence
It's okay, Island of Silence
Hmmmm
