Beautiful Soldier

Story Behind The Song

My daughter is a nurse and as I wrote this song I was crying for her bravery and terrified for her own health. I was crying for images of the nurses and doctors with their faces scared from their masks and their desperate pleas for people to stay home and wear masks. To me they are the true heroes, the beautiful soldiers of this story.

Lyrics

You are the stars in the night
you are the moon up above
I believe you were sent here to teach us
the meaning of love
this is your time, go on and stand up
this is your time, go on and stand up
Oh you beautiful soldier, you beautiful soldier

You are holy you are complete
you are everything that we could
ever want to be
I can see it in you eyes
you are brave but you are still afraid
as you wonder if you have the strength
to get up and face another day
Oh you beautiful soldier, you beautiful soldier

You were born from rock and sand
I believe you are part of a much greater plan
the breath of life runs through your veins
Oh you beautiful soldier
you beautiful soldier

I can feel it in your weariness
the things you carry home at night
as you wonder if you have the strength
to get up
and get back into this fight
Oh you beautiful soldier
you beautiful soldier.
