Lyrics
SPECIAL FRIEND
She has been a special friend
on whom I always could depend
but truth is I cannot pretend
to love her more than friends do
I'm grateful how she lifted me
With her strength and dignity
So wise and kind and sweet was she
But near the start I guess I knew:
That she
was simply not the one for me
Though we
shared a bond so rare
Hear my plea
Good Lord hover over her...
She said that she'd be satisfied
To be great mates love on the side
But in the end you need your pride
When love's no more than when friends do
Though who would want to sacrifice
Companionship so very nice
I wondered at the long term price
Since all along I guess I knew:
That she
was simply not the one for me
Though we
shared a bond so rare
Hear my plea
Good Lord hover over her
when I draw the line
at friendship's fine
but the rest's as thin as air
Now part of me is racked with guilt
For her harsh tears which must be spilt
And so much promise never built
If love's no more than when friends do
I aimed to give it a good try
My head said yes but with a sigh
My heart simply could not deny
That in the end I guess I knew:
That she
was simply not the one for me
Though we
shared a bond so rare
Hear my plea
Good Lord hover over her
when I draw the line
at friendship's fine
but the rest's as thin as air
though
I know
it's so
not fair
my dear
take care
Well she helped me deal with my remorse
As I went through a long divorce
But these new blues appeared of course
With love no more than when friends do
So spin the ever turning wheel
unsure how the feelings feel
shifting everything unreal
beneath the sun where nothing's new
Oh she....
