Song Description
This song was inspired by Sandra Kynes' book, "Whispers from the Woods." She writes that in 13th and 14th century Wales, lovers met in the house of leaves, a birch tree. The Gaelic name for birch is "beith."
Birch trees are associated with
renewal because they grow so
quickly, often being the first to rise
after a forest fire, and often grow in
groves, not individual trees. Birch was often used for maypoles, and is one of the nine sacred woods for a sabbat fire, which celebrates the Goddess.
To go "a maying" referred to these romantic meetings under the birch tree. The birch was also know as the hawthorn.

Lyrics
You found me
And there we met
Under the
House of leaves
You kissed me
And to my heart
Thee led
Under the
House of leaves
You gave me
A wreath
Of cinnamon
And silver
As a token
Of our tryst
As we said farewell
To winter
Oh spring
Do bring
There we went
A maying
Oh spring
Do bring
The singing
Of the robin
The hunting of the wren
Carrying
On a wing
The branch of a birch
In her talon
There you'll find me
Welcoming the green
Under heart-shaped
leaves
There you'll find me
Until we meet again
Under the house
Of leaves
You kissed me
And to my heart
Thee led
Under the house of leaves
Under the house of leaves
Under the house of leaves
