Story Behind The Song
I sometimes walk around feeling nervous about the people I meet. I wanted to write about how we're all connected no matter what our circumstances in life.
Song Description
Sometimes it can seem like the suffering people we read about or even see in our neighbourhoods have no connection to ourselves. But I believe that we are actually 'one' . We have hearts. We have feelings. We have our humanity. We have souls.

Lyrics
WE ARE ONE
I opened up the paper
And I stared down at a place
Eight thousand miles away
I recognize a face.
Her eyes were blank, her child was limp.
I did not know her name.
Another war, another day
Another world - the same
Chorus:
But we are one, though we may not know it yet
We are one, even though we've never met.
I walk past the alley
I spot a homeless man
I hope he didn't notice me
He's sorting through some cans
I've seen him lying on the steps
I do not know his name
Another door, another day
Another street - the same.
(Chorus)
Bridge:
Fear keeps me here in the safety of my routine
But my heart is reaching out to all I see. Repeat Bridge at end
Repeated for final end: But my heart is reaching out to all I see
The elevator doors closed
And the both of us looked up
I stole a little glance at you
You sipped your coffee cup
The numbers wink at both of us
I've never asked your name.
Another floor, another day
Another ride - the same.
(Chorus / Bridge)
