Story Behind The Song
The song's concept was initiated by my father, who after having a frustrating fight with my mom, went into the studio and penned the lyrics. My parents are still happily married and when my dad tells the story, he explains that the fight was just a springboard for exploration into what it would feel like if it ever got to the point where it was time to burn everything they've built togerher down to the ground. He makes it very clear that he doesn't want to, nor has he ever wanted to, Burn It Down!!! hahaha
Song Description
Personal relationships are complicated. Whether in a romantic, business or platonic association, they are built on love and respect, yet are convoluted and ever-changing. As time goes by, each party must continue to bring value to the partnership; value perceived and also reciprocated by the opposite partner. The new music, “Burn It Down,” by Kjersti Long, explores what can happen when the balance of value in a relationship gets tipped to become inequitable. Resentment results, causing destructive behavior from one or both sides. When respect is lost and communication becomes futile, is it time to go, or do we stay and fight for what once was? Then, when have things gone too far? “Burn It Down” is infused with pop rock mid-tempo-beats, and lyrics paired with an eerie air of background vocals telling of such a story, leading to a chaotic end. Kjersti Long continues her coming-of-age journey, with a powerfully unforgettable performance that will make “Burn It Down” one of her signature achievements that you will never, ever forget!

Lyrics
Never seen the rain come down quite like tonight Pounding like the storm inside my heart Every chance I take’s another tear to cry Fighting for a life that’s come apart Every word’s an emotional bullet And you’ve got the gun You shoot and run What have we become If there can’t be you and me If when I wake up all that I see Are the shadows of what we used to be If it’s not one thing it’s two I can’t stay here if it’s not with you So then there’s only one thing left to do Burn it down Burn it down Used to share your secrets now you’re keeping them And it’s only slowly breaking us apart Every word’s an emotional bullet And you’ve got the gun You shoot and run What have we become If there can’t be you and me If when I wake up all that I see Are the shadows of what we used to be If it’s not one thing it’s two I can’t stay here if it’s not with you So then there’s only one thing left to do Burn it down Burn it down Every word’s an emotional bullet And you’ve got the gun You shoot and run What have we become If there can’t be you and me If when I wake up all that I see Are the shadows of what we used to be (what we used to be) If it’s not one thing it’s two I can’t stay here if it’s not with you So then there’s only one thing left to do Burn it down Burn it down (what we used to be) Burn it down Burn it down
