Story Behind The Song
Some old bandmates gathered for one of the members' Mother's funeral in 2013, and discussed the possibility of maybe getting together to do a "reunion" album project together. The album project never materialized, but I wrote this song for that project and decided to record it on my own.
Song Description
A few old friends gather and contemplate changes since the last time they'd seen each other. They decide they've become older, but wiser, and better than before.

Lyrics
"BETTER THAN BEFORE"
©2013 Kevin Simnacher
Casting Shadows on the faded past.
Prodigal sons and a fattened calf.
We're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
Chances taken on a different path
leads to fortune, but it may not last.
We're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
[Inst. interlude]
Some of us left
and some of us stayed.
Each had a different
song they played.
We're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
A twist of fate--
a common thread--
has led us home
to mourn our dead.
We're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
[Inst. interlude]
[solo section]
A few old friends
from long ago
cross paths once more
in their hearts they know.
They're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
A common bond
from a distant past
connect once more
Hope it's not their last.
We're older now.
Wiser now, better than before.
