Lyrics
The vessel and the prism went out one day
And to her friend the vessel was heard to say:
"It's a charming act, your ability to disperse and refract
And though light may contain you, will it sustain you?
"My dear, I'll have you know, my crystalline rainbow
Bears a power you could Never hope to show
Within your basin cold, another's glory you hold
When your contents have departed, will you be broken-hearted?
Are we not both defined by our contents or our shining light
Are we not both unseen, the means to an end?
Like the moon my light is borrowed and the radiance I gather I bend
Would that I could be the source, the force of the beauty I rend
"I've been robbed," the vessel cried
Feeling the empty cavern inside
All that remained were the remnants
Of her damaged pride
The hollow space within her Made the vessel quake with fear
A deserted urn is worthless, is it not, my dear?
But the prism's light had vanished, She cried aloud in panic
To see her spectrum of colors fade to dismal black
The vessel and the prism went out one day
And to her friend the prism was heard to say:
My dear, I don't despise you-- I am here beside you
My friend, I need no light to see your inner value
Are we not what we are,
a mere pyramid and a jar?
And is how I see you now
Not all we ever were?
