Story Behind The Song
Gleaned the lyric from a newspaper article I read right after 9-11-2001 happened. I kept the article, as it was touching -- wrote the song in 2002, then tucked it away. After seeing this opportunity, I dug it out, tweaked the writing and produced a song in honor of our fallen NYPD/NYFD on 9-11-2001.
Song Description
I cannot say enough of how brave our fire fighters and police personnel are all across the USA. I personally have had 1 brother in Police service, and two relatives in fire fighter service -- all brave men. This song is in honor of what one fire fighter was heard saying before he climbed the stairs of one of the melting Twin Towers during the horrible 9-11-2001 attack. Thank God for such wonderful people who save so many lives -- even at the sacrifice of their own.

Vs I:A quiet morning in New York City,
He hit the streets in search of his coffee...
With one loud crash, our world turned upside down,
He dropped his cup and headed into town...
Vs II:The Engines roared, the sirens screamed,
One look told him, it was more than a bad dream...
Turn:He grabbed his gear, ran to the site,
People scrambling down while he climbed the flights:
Chorus:"IT'S MY JOB", They heard him say...
We do these type of things most every day!
But my hero went down, and the whole nation sobbed...
The last thing he said was -- "IT'S MY JOB."
Vs III:Our little boy asked "When's Daddy coming home?"
I knew the answer when I heard the ring of our phone ...
"Listen, Son, I got something to say...
Your Daddy's gone, he was a hero today"... you see,
Turn:He grabbed his gear, ran to the site,
People scrambling down while he climbed the flights:
Chorus:"IT'S MY JOB", They heard him say...
We do these type of things most every day!
But my hero went down, and the whole nation sobbed...
The last thing he said was -- "IT'S MY JOB."
Bridge:Tell the whole world what you heard him say,
Unafraid of his duty...the many lives he saved --
Please remember him today: They said,
Chorus:"IT'S MY JOB", They heard them say...
We do these type of things most every day!
But our heroes went down, and the whole nation sobbed...
The last thing they said was -- "IT'S MY JOB."
Tag: As we laid our heroes to rest...
The crowd just sobbed...
Their headstones simply read...
"IT'S -- MY -- JOB."
*Dedicated to two of my relatives who serve as firefighters, and to the brave fallen of the NYFD/NYPD on 9-11-2001...we will NEVER forget. Thank you for your incredible service to our communities and country.
