Story Behind The Song
This tune is a musical eulogy in loving memory of Lauren Townsend. She passed away when she was 18, a victim of a gun fire. I knew her as a bass clarinetist, and she was always a joy to talk to.

Lyrics
In loving memory of Lauren Townsend
A tragic loss sins on a cross could not have saved the day
From suffering away
A beauty lies, my memory sighs as thoughts begin to sway
The notes she used to play
So much for asking her to stay
We met in ninety-two
Her bass clarinet fumes filled my very soul
And though she never joined my crew
She offered kindness and control
The fundamental laws of life are written down
As he sends angels with their one referral
The tragic flaws of past have escaped this town
Make gentle this bruised girl
Again in ninety-eight
A high school history project I portrayed
Her note cards lifted off the weight
Cause she made us so unafraid
The fundamental laws of life are written down
As he sends angels with their one referral
The tragic flaws of past have escaped this town
Make gentle this bruised girl
Make gentle this bruised girl, this bruised girl.
(This bruised girl, this bruised girl)
The tragic loss, sins on a cross could not have saved the day
