Story Behind The Song
I wanted to write a song describing the ethic of the volunteer weather spotter that would promote the NWS spotter training program. I was influenced by Styx and Supertramp in this one.
Song Description
From the viewpoint of a volunteer storm spotter, describing the dangers and satisfaction involved with being "The Eyes and Ears" of the National Weather Service.

Lyrics
SKYWARN SPOTTER
©1999 By John G. Fausett
I see the towers building higher
Severe weather is not my desire
But I?ll be ready to place my call
When the hailstones fall
I?m on alert when the sky is stormy
I study carefully the features before me
Keep my distance, prepare for the worst
Putting safety first
I?m a SKYWARN spotter protecting my community
I?m a SKYWARN spotter, and I take it very seriously
Not for fame, and not for glory
No recognition in a front page story
Not for money, and not for fun
Just a job well done
The atmosphere demands explaining
So I prepare with the proper training
And I?ll be ready to place my call
When the hailstones fall
I?m a SKYWARN spotter protecting my community
I?m a SKYWARN spotter, and I take it very seriously
Watching for danger with true dedication
Scanning the clouds for any sign of rotation
Wary of lightning and damaging hail
Communicating without fail
Whenever nasty weather is born
The National Weather Service will warn
(repeat verses 3 and 4)
I?m a SKYWARN spotter protecting my community
I?m a SKYWARN spotter, and I take it very seriously
I?m a SKYWARN spotter protecting my community
I?m a SKYWARN spotter, and I take it very seriously
