Story Behind The Song
While traveling through west Virginia I encountered some car trouble. I stopped by a repair shop and had to stay overnight in an old mining town which had seen better days. I met a grizzled, wrinkled man at a diner who looked to be over 60. In giving me sda history of the town I came to find out he was only in his mid forties.

Lyrics
Half dead mining town
Roll river roll down, wash away the sin of this mining town
Land's dead, long gone, left to go to dust
If I had my way I'd break that dam up Copper lake
Let the water flood the gates, wash away the rust
Chorus)
Oh Lord, save me now, save me now
Don't want to fade away
Living my life in a half dead mining town
Dad died long ago, lost his lungs to the smoke and coal
Mama stayed, held on, she was never quite the same
I did my time two miles down in a company mine
'Till the hole ran dry, the company moved away
Chorus)
Oh Lord, save me now, save me now
Don't want to fade away
Living my life in a half dead mining town
Don't want to fade away
Don't want to fade away
Don't want to fade away
In a half dead mining town
Time goes the river flows, coal dust still fills our souls
Like some forsaken ghost ever on our minds
Someday the wife and I will take the river on down the line
Where the water meets to coast and the building kiss the sky
Chorus)
Oh Lord, save me now, save me now
Don't want to fade away
Living my life in a half dead mining town
In a half dead mining town
Oh Lord, save me now, save me now
Don't want to fade away
Living my life in a half dead mining town
In a half dead mining town
