Story Behind The Song
This is supposed to be both serious and funny. Everyone gets it live, but some seem to miss the "funny" aspect when listening to the recording.
I wrote the song after watching the E True Hollywood story of the last days of Elvis. It was the saddest thing to me to see those who called him his friend rat him out after his death, to prolong their 15 minutes of near fame. The Memphis Mafia, as they are referred to told some deeply humiliating stories about Elvis, the very person who befriended them, payed them, fed them, and never even thought of sayiing such hurtful things about any of them. It was a sad reality that hit me. Nobody should ever be as famous as Elvis. And while we the public, selfishly love the idea of the 'King', being the King was of course the very thing that killed Elvis. And his 'friends' have done a great dis-service to him by airing his private turmoil to the world.
So there is the motivation for the serious aspect of the song. The idea of making it a bit of a facetious song was simply to lighten the mood of what had the potential to be just another sad song about Elvis, and I didn't want to add to that over stocked collection.

Lyrics
Think of Elvis now
Think of him somehow
without a song to sing
No one would crown him king
Think of Elvis now
Think of him somehow
without a stage to grace No one would know his face
And how his life might be
How it was
oooooooooo-Think of Elvis drivin that truck
oooooooooo-Finding much better luck
oooooooooo-Knowing someone he could trust
oooooooooo-And knowing how to control his lust
oooooooooo-And all the king's men and the colonel too
wouldn't have their Moody Blue
Wouldn't have a man to mold
Wouldn't have their pot of gold
And how his life might be
How it was
Think of Elvis now
Think of him somehow
without a song to sing
No one would crown him king
