Story Behind The Song

Personal experience and observation of others as well as realizing that the longer we experience it the harder it is to change. At a late age I realize that I can accept what they've told me/showed me I was...or, do something about it....find the real person I was meant to be and trust that I've known all along who that was.

Song Description

People, from the time you are young, will try to influence and manipulate you. That doesn't change with age. But as much as we are conditioned...early on... we can still break free. We can be who WE are meant to be, instead of just a cog in someone else's machine....Nor do we have to buy into our human weaknesses as the reason to not break free.

Lyrics

I'm not like my brother but we have the same last name
He's always doing stupid stuff like jumping from a train
Sometimes he takes me with him but he makes me jump off first
I always seem to end up with my face in the dirt
I'm no Albert Einstein but I think I've ascertained
It's best to let the soloist go jumping from a train

I'm not like like my father sometimes I wish I was
Because he was a good man or maybe just because
He never let his family down showed up every time
The kind of man that you could spot from the back of every line
I'd like to think if he were here he'd say I was ok
And living someone else's life ain't living anyway

Somebody tell the conductor
Better keep and eye on me
There can't be more than 2 stops up ahead
Trains go faster over the desert
I ain't waiting till we hit the sea
Still got time for a cigarette

And so today I threw away those handcuffs that I found
A million beers a thousand tears I left them on the group
Shook my vest and headed west left the platform way behind
I may not have my happiness but I'll never lose my mind
Step out of the sunshine jump into the rain
It sure as hell beat when I fell jumping from a train

Somebody tell the conductor
Better keep and eye on me
There can't be more than 2 stops up ahead
Trains go faster over the desert
I ain't waiting till we hit the sea
Still got time for a cigarette
