Story Behind The Song
I just wanted to go on record as having sympathy for the people affected by Hurricane Katrina, and I wanted to make the statement that just because the storm is over doesn't mean we're out of the woods. We all weather the storm every day we get up and go to work.
Song Description
"Weather the Storm" speaks to the injustice that was done to all of the victims and survivors of Hurricane Katrina. It deals with the literal concept of weathering the storm, as in hunkering down until the hurricane passed, but it also proposes that the people are still weathering the storm under the current administration.

Lyrics
Well, the TV said, "There's a big one comin', better head for higher ground"
And they said you better grab a hold your loved ones and get the hell out of town
What about my momma livin' down by the river? She probably doesn't even know
And what about the people with no way out, and no where else to go?
I guess they gotta weather the storm, they gotta ride it out
Till the man finally sees what it's all about
You gotta weather the storm through the wind and raim
Then you gotta weather the storm...again
Well, the levees broke and the water come flowin' swallowin' the city down
And before we knew what was goin' on it was too late to turn around
So we said our prayers and we cried in the darkness, and everybody did the same
And we waited there for someone to help us, but nobody ever came
I guess they gotta weather the storm, they gotta ride it out
Till the man finally sees what it's all about
You gotta weather the storm through the wind and rain
Then you gotta weather the storm...again
Well, my sisters and brothers and some of the others were livin', but just barely alive
And how you gonna keep the good Lord's teachin' when you're strugglin' to survive?
Now I ain't sayin' it's right or it's wrong, but when you come to the great divide
It brings out the best and it brings out the worst and that's when you have to decide
I guess they gotta weather the storm, they gotta ride it out
Till the man finally sees what it's all about
You gotta weather the storm through the wind and rain
Then you gotta weather the storm...again
