Lyrics

She was young and oh so fair
Lips of red and long black hair
A smile so warm a heart so true
Saw the world through eyes of blue

And the Bugles did play as her true love marched away.
And the sun shone bright as he disappeared from sight.
Gone today. Gone away, to the Blue & Gray.
.
A handsome lad just turned eighteen
Brave and strong as ever seen
Hair of gold and eyes of brown
Would not let his country down

And the Bugles did play as he proudly marched away.
And the sun shone bright as he disappeared from sight.
Gone today. Gone away, to the Blue & Gray.

Canons roared and bullets flew.
Both sides bled red white & blue.
Their cause was just God only knew oooh ooh
God only knew.

Lips of red and long black hair
Sits alone in dark despair
Hair of gold and eyes of brown
Ever young beneath the ground

One lone Bugle did play as they buried him this day.
As the rain came down he was lowered in the ground.
Gone today. Gone away, to the Blue & Gray.
Gone today. Gone away, to the Blue & Gray

This is a really special folk song about going to war...
I love the guitar intro. Sets up song for the great melody perfectly. This is an excellent song, and the first reason I know that is that it affected me emotionally. Whether it's the civil war or the war against terrorism, we still have young men and women living out this same story, and experiencing that "deep despair" in a young life, a young love lost. The last verse was beautifully & poignantly written...perfect. I absolutely love the voice! It's real, true, honest and obviously a master storyteller in song. The melody is simple, the hook memorable, and the bridge is right on target. Way to go! I definitely want to hear more of your work!

This was a really easy song too listen to. The instrumentation, vocals, and arrangement were all excellent. The lyrics told a story, which is what Country music is all about. I could easily listen to this song several times over.

Song was very nice and had a going off to war definite feel. Musicianship was well done and the production value was nice.

Really really good song, the lyrics tell a great story which is sung well. Loved the guitar and the overall production, definitely a case of building and breaking a song down in relation to the story line and it worked beautifully, the use of the strings were really creative and provided the right backdrop to the lyrics being sung

Just a great listen and when you are are not thinking of the critique you know it is
