Story Behind The Song
This song was inspired by a homeless man who holds up a cardboard sign and panhandles at a local shopping center. I pass him every time I drive out of the shopping center and have given him an occasional handout while wondering about his circumstances.
Song Description
The sing tells the story of a homeless person living life behind his cardboard sign. He longs for connection with others and has become accustomed to folks trying to avoid eye contact while he begs for a handout. He is seeking not only a handout, but some understanding of his less fortunate circumstance.

Lyrics
Been a long long time out on the road
No place to go or call my home
Figured I'd count you among my friends
When it was cold and dark outside you'd let me in
Chorus:
One thing I've got it's time
To spend behind this homemade cardboard sign
Out here in the wind and rain
I sit and wait til someone look my way
You don't have time to hear what I've been through
I'm just hoping you can spare a buck or two
Thank you for your kind words and your prayers
Please overlook this thousand mile stare
Chorus:
One thing I've got it's time
To spend behind this homemade cardboard sign
Out here in the wind and rain
I sit and wait til someone look my way
Holdin' my sign
Can you spare a dime
Are you readin' my sign
I don't need too much of your time
Please read my sign
