Story Behind The Song
I wrote this tune after stopping in a rest area in Idaho..While there an old man in cowboy garb pulled in the rest area in his beat up old pickup pulling a horse trailer behind him..He pulled out his horse from the trailer and let it graze and relax on the grass for a couple hours..While the horse ate and had water the old man and myself spent a couple hours talking and smoking cigarettes as he told me all about his life as a working cowboy..This man was about 83 years old..Said he was heading to his son's ranch in Montana and was hanging up his spurs and retiring his horse to the pasture..I just had to write this tune as a tribute to Buck Simpson, that was his name..I know he has to have passed on by now..But what an honor I had spending that couple hours with him in that rest area in Idaho..
