Ozona

Story Behind The Song

I wrote this within a couple of weeks of meeting my wife. It felt too soon, but it alsio felt right and I couln't help myself. She had never been to Santa Fe or Napa and we talked about going. Her father had recently passed away and her mom had remarried and moved to West Texas, six hours away. It was very apparent that they had a special relationship and I knew that I wouln't be invited to meet her without very serious consideration. I also had a very strong intuition that I needed her father's approval even though he was gone.

Song Description

Early in a relationship he recognizes how much her mom means to her and how much she misses her mom, who recently moved to West Texas. He wants to take her to all the places she has never been, like Santa Fe and California, but he knows that the most important trip they take, will be the one to meet her mom. He also wonders aloud about whether her dad would approve of him. He will never know the answer to that since her father has passed away, but he apparently feels a true, spiritual connection with him and is cautiously confident that "he would if he were here".

Lyrics

Ozona
Jeffrey W. Posey

Does Ozona seem a world away from here?
When you said your mama moved out west I thought you held a tear
Do you feel alone sometime do you wish that she was here?
Does Ozona seem a world away from here?

I wanna take you to California maybe Santa Fe
I would take you anywhere, anytime any day
But if I?ve learned anything in the little time I?ve known ya
I?m gonna smile when you take me to Ozona

Is it wrong to wonder how you really feel?
And is it way to soon for us to know how much of this is real?
If I just keep being me will I meet your mom someday?
Or will my crazy world get in the way?

Does forever seem impossible to share?
I know I never met your dad but I feel him everywhere
Ya think he?d ride the river with me, would we sit and drink a beer?
And am I wrong to think he would if he were here?

..hold you in the moonlight, lay in bed all day
But if I learned anything in the little time I?ve known ya
I?m gonna smile when I wake up in Ozona
I?m gonna smile when I wake up in Ozona
I?m gonna smile if I make Christmas in Ozona
