Once there was a father who begot his only son
To let him die for something that other folks had done
It's hard for me to understand what he was thinking of
But they say it had to do with faith and love

So someone wrote a book to try and tell me how to live
What I should believe in and who I should forgive
In it there's a story of the man who came to die

Told another story of a dream that seemed soo real
Way beyond the melody and words that strained to rhyme
Was the notion of a love for all mankind

But someone killed the singer, they didn't like the way he looked
They said they were defending what they read inside that book
So how can someone take the word & twist it to pretend
That any means will justify their end
