Story Behind The Song
I stepped outside on a crisp winter night to see a crescent, or new, moon hanging in the sky so low that it looked like it was caught in the big oak tree in my back yard. There's been enough written about full moons! The song came to me so fast that I could barely get it written down.
Song Description
Sometimes there are no regrets for a love affair that happened too soon after heartbreak, and couldn't last. The moment - in this case, under a new moon - is so magical that it was completely understandable.

Lyrics
The New Moon
Full moons are romantic, a half moon is - well, half.
If I sang of crescent moons maybe you'd just laugh.
But if you knew what happened beneath that silver bow,
I think you'd smile, at least, because I'm sure you'd know
It's not the moon at all that makes anybody fall.
It's the wanting on his face,
It's the moment, it's the place,
It's the promise from the heart,
Promising to never part.
Too soon, too soon.
But that's why I will always love
The new moon.
Eight o'clock on Friday...no, it was 8 o'five.
Your hand was warm in my hand; I felt so alive.
We were both so hungry but dinner would be late.
Stars were busy shining and love just couldn't wait.
Your breathing warmed my cheek; I'm too helpless now to speak.
The moon, it seems, has caught the trees,
Balancing their limbs with ease.
We just might go floating there,
Caught up in the moon's affair.
Too soon, too soon.
But that's why I will always love
The new moon.
