Lyrics

He stands alone in the cold, winter night.
Drops off the letter that could change her mind.
All of his calls she has ignored
Since she threw the ring on the floor.
Back to his car before the motel door opens.
He drives away and prays she'll come home but then
A breeze blows by like a ghost
And took those words he wrote.
She'll never know that he said:

"I've been waiting for you
These past four nights.
I don't know what to do
I just want to make it right.
Without your love I'm so alone.
I'm waiting for you to come back home.
Just come back home."

At the house he waits a nervous wreck.
But the footsteps he hears is just rain on the deck.
Pride took over and won her heart.
She lost her way and now it's torn them apart.
She lost her way now it's torn them apart.
Well, she ran away to be expecting him
To just come by instead of calling again.
Action speaks louder than words
But his was never heard
When he wrote to her:

"I've been waiting for you
These past four nights.
I don't know what to do
I just want to make it right.
Without your love I'm so alone.
I'm waiting for you to come back home."

She couldn't take the pain another night.
She leaves that motel to tell him goodbye.
But a change in the wind brings a gift in the twilight.
As she finds his words reminding her there's time.

Home again, she walks through the door.
Now his heart beats faster than ever before.
A stunned silence stares through his eyes
As she says, "this would've been goodbye,
But I couldn't lie...

I've been waiting for you
These past four nights.
I don't know what to do
I just want to make it right.
Without your love I'm so alone.
I've been waiting for you so I've come back home."
