Story Behind The Song
Another from under the gray cloud of loss and regret.
Song Description
I had a copy of Lillian Hellman's book of the same title. I liked the book and the title and began a songwriting exercise for myself where every line had to begin with the title word.

Lyrics
MAYBE ? Lyrics & Music by Jeffrey Hatcher
I
Maybe we can go on home
Maybe now that?s too far
Maybe it?ll be just you and you can go on alone
Maybe you?ll turn around
And you?ll find me right behind you
CHORUS:
Maybe you?ll turn around someday and find I have followed you anyway
II
And maybe we?ve gone too far and never come back this time
Maybe too far it can?t be done and we?re just fooling
Maybe you could turn your head
But maybe I can do that for you, and?
CHORUS:
Maybe you?ll turn around someday and find I have followed you anyway
I said maybe you?ll turn around someday
BRIDGE:
But maybe this love will last
Maybe you?ll feel it just like I do
But maybe it?ll slide on past
Maybe you want it to
Maybe you do
III
Maybe I can stay right here and start this all over
Maybe you can do the same but do it somewhere new
But maybe you could leave a sign
On the open road where I?m bound to go
CHORUS:
Maybe you?ll turn around someday and find I have followed you anyway
I said maybe you?ll turn around someday
Maybe you?ll turn around someday and find I have followed you anyway
I said maybe, maybe never, but just maybe
