Story Behind The Song

It started as a joke when Hurricane Sandy was approaching New York but turned into a passionate plea with the psyche to avoid relapsing into addiction and thus continuing the cycle of relapse.

Song Description

With aggressive, pulsating drums and intense guitar motifs, this is a driving rock song with funky, catchy vocal harmonics in the bridges and a sonically and dynamically varied layout. It starts out with a bang and builds from there, with a short, vulnerable breakdown dotted with Petra Haden's violin towards the end. The song explores the issues around the cycle of relapse for an alcoholic/addict, touching on the theme of feeling like one has a double soul: one wants to be free and loving and the other sporadically chooses darkness. Being clean allows the addict to feel and contribute love whereas during a relapse you're "living day to day in the black hole..."
