While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night
Music: original, Greg Capozzi ©2011
Text: Nahum Tate, 1752-1826, text added/adapt by Greg Capozzi
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
All seated on the ground nearby
The angel of the Lord came down\and glory shown all around
"Fear not" he said for mighty dread had seized their troubled minds instead
"Glad tidings of great joy I bring to you and human kind I sing
For you in David's town this day is born of David's line this way
The savior who is Christ the Lord and this shall be the sign that I'll forward
They'll be a star in the sky tonight
Follow it to yonder town, Bethlehem, to see Heaven's delight
The heavenly babe you there shall find for human view displayed tonight
All neatly wrapped in swathing clothes and in a manger their laid low"
Thus spoke the Seraph and forth with appeared a shinning throng above it
Of angels praising God who thus addressed their joyful song to us
They sang this song, "He is born King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Prince of Peace."
All glory be to God on high and to the earth be peace tonight
"Good will, hence forth" came heaven's call...
"begin and never cease at all...
let peace on the earth never cease at all"
