Story Behind The Song
This song premiered as part of play we wrote. It originally started out as "That's what happens when you happen to marry an Irishman" This song is about Cubs Fans now. Our futility is endless and there is no hope. But we don't care because we are Cubs Fans and that's what happens when you happen to be a Cubs Fan.

THATS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU HAPPEN TO BE A CUBS FAN

All of us true cubs fans
We know why we're here
Is to grab a little sun
And to have a coupla beers
Since the early 1900s
We pay good money to be here
Every spring we think we'll win it all
This'll be our year
As much as we love Wrigley
The park is still half filled
But they tore down all the bleachers
And they haven't been rebuilt
No one seemed to realize
That when the temps are in the teens
It's pretty much impossible
To drive in steel beams
But they found a way to put a
digital scoreboard in the stands
Thats what happens when you happen to be
A Cubs fan
You'd've thought we won it all
Back in 1984
When Ryno took Bruce Sutter deep
He only tied the score
When Sammy Sosa vied to
Become the home run leader
He couldn't beat McGuire
Even tho they both were cheaters
Then Lou Pintella took us
To the playoffs two straight years
When we didn't win a game
There were hardly any tears
Now we got a minor league
That's made it to the pros
They're all really trying hard
And believe you me -- it shows
Now we got Joe Madden
Maybe he's Da Man
But Thats what happens when you happen to be
A Cubs fan
I really like the games now
We put our feet up on the seat
And all the drunks you stumbled over
Passed out on the street
Are from right here in the neighborhood,
At least the Northwest side, and it
We love the guys from Halsted Street
Who liked to show their pride.
That homeless guy outside the park
Holds true contempt and scorn,
A seat costs several hundred,
A small mortgage and your first born.
Yet We both remember fondly
While holding back a tear, when
Five bucks would buy a seat
Now it wont even buy a beer, and
Once you get inside
Instead of chips
They're selling flan
Thats what happens...
I yell and scream and curse you when
Octobers finally here
I say Im never coming back
But Ill be back next year.
Say I'm a neurotic
Say I'm full of beans
Say I'm a cockeyed optimist
Whatever the hell that means,
Our hearts keep getting broken,
But still our hearts are there.
Its not that we like punishment
Its more like we don't care.
Were like a case of herpes,
Well stick through thick or thin,
We love em when they're losing, or
Even if they win.
We pray our disappointment
Is not part of Gods great plan ... But ...
Thats what happens...
